Using the client assessments from earlier in the semester, develop a theory specific intervention plan using one theoretical perspective discussed in this class. You will choose the theory that best applies based on your assessment of the client’s problem/situation as discussed in prior assignments. Your submitted paper will be between 8 and 10 pages in length and will include the following information:
Theory Selection (3-4 Pages)
Provide a brief overview of the client’s presenting problem, including dimensions of the problem you discovered in your qualitative and quantitative assessments.
Communicate the theoretical orientation you intend to apply. Discuss why the theory fits the needs of your client given the presenting problem, age, ability, sense of self, etc.
Discuss how you interpret the client’s presenting problem within this theory.
Describe how the client’s particular strengths and cultural context are relevant.
Address any potential drawbacks to the use of this theory with this client.
Treatment Planning (3-4 Pages)
Write 3 treatment goals based on your theory selection. Keep in mind that different theories will seek to accomplish different kinds of goals.
Apply a SMART goal approach. If this feels inappropriate, explain why.
Indicate 1-2 theory specific working activities per treatment goal. Depending on the theory you’re applying, some activities might appear more than once.
Explain how these activities are expected to produce change.
Personal Reflection (2 Pages)
Reflect on the degree to which this theoretical orientation is representative of your personal beliefs about human nature. Further, discuss your awareness of the impact of your personal experiences or biases in applying this theory.
Your Theory Specific Intervention Plan will be a document that is typed, double-spaced, and carefully checked for typographical and spelling errors. Utilize fonts and margins that fall within normal limits e.g., Times New Roman 12-point font with 1” margins. Language and grammar should meet standards of graduate-level course work.
Exemplary work will develop a coherent argument for the use of the chosen theory, will describe theoretically-appropriate treatment goals well designed to facilitate change, and will engage in meaningful reflection of the writer’s use of this theory.
If you have any questions or concerns about the Theory Specific Intervention Plan, you should each out before the assignment is due! I’m glad to respond to any inquiries you may have.
