Content of your speech
Introduction
You should have a brief introduction that gets your audience’s attention, and you should state your passion in one sentence.
Main Points
You should talk about these three main points:
Explain how, when and why you first realized it was a passion.
Explain how your passion developed over time.
Explain what the current state of your passion is.
Each main point should have several sub-points. Include enough detail in each main point to get to the required 3 minute speech minimum.
Conclusion
You should have a brief conclusion that restates your passion in one sentence and wraps up the speech.
Formatting the Outline
Format this as a full sentence outline. This means that you write a script in outline form.
The only file types allowed are Microsoft Word, Portable Document Format, or Text (.docx, pdf, .txt).
There are no page or word minimums or maximums for the outline.
In the upper left hand corner of the first page only (not the header), type:
Your name
My name
Class name (CSTA 101)
Date, single-spaced. See how to make a block of text single-spaced (Links to an external site.).
Do not include a title or title page.
Do not include anything in the header or footer.
Start the outline two lines down from the identifying information (after you type the date, click “Return” twice).
Each section of the speech – introduction, first main point, second main point, third main point, and conclusion – should be single-spaced
Be sure to use what you learned in the outlining reading:
Coordination
Parallelism
Subordination
Division
Use font effects (bold, italics, underlining, etc.) correctly. In most cases, there is no need for these features for this assignment.
