Please use the following directions in developing your discussion post. You will be applying critical thinking and analysis to the relationship between three factors: the Lazarus Cognitive-mediation theory, the results of your assessment of your own emotional intelligence, and how your emotional intelligence may reflect a relationship to your life experiences that shaped your “appraisal” perspectives per the Lazarus theory.

Instructions for Preparation:
[Note: These instructions are related to “getting ready to write”, but “Instructions for Writing your Post” will follow. Don’t write your response until you have completed all the “get ready” steps]
Critical Thinking: When preparing your post, use critical thinking and analysis to formulate your discussion points.
In your post, you will be asked to explain how personal experiences, cultural differences, and situational factors in your life shaped your “cognitive appraisal” process to assign “positive” emotions to certain events and “negative” emotions to others. As patterns of responses became established, these patterns likely became reflected in the various elements of your emotional intelligence.
[Note: It will be difficult for you to respond to this task if you have not read the learning material and watched the videos as required.]
Instructions for Writing your Post
TIP – Not required, but recommended: Prepare a draft of your discussion post in a word processing such as Microsoft Word. Copy and paste your final draft to the discussion board when you are ready.
1 – Include in your post:
A brief description of the Lazarus’ Cognitive-mediation Theory (the essential elements).
2 – Analysis:
Reflect on the results of your Emotional Intelligence assessment results. Explain how personal experiences, cultural differences, and situational factors in your life shaped your “cognitive appraisal” process to assign “positive” emotions to certain events and “negative” emotions to others. As patterns of responses became established, these patterns likely became reflected in the various elements of your emotional intelligence.
Describe how the cognitive appraisal process may have influenced your Emotional Intelligence in each of the five elements of emotional intelligence listed below:
Self-awareness (Is this an emotional intelligence strength for me? What life events influenced my general emotional response to events related to this element; vice versa if it is an emotional intelligence liability)
Self-regulation (Is this an emotional intelligence strength for me? What life events influenced my general emotional response to events related to this element; vice versa if it is an emotional intelligence liability)
Motivation (Is this an emotional intelligence strength for me? What life events influenced my general emotional response to events related to this element; vice versa if it is an emotional intelligence liability)
Empathy (Is this an emotional intelligence strength for me? What life events influenced my general emotional response to events related to this element; vice versa if it is an emotional intelligence liability)
Social skills (Is this an emotional intelligence strength for me? What life events influenced my general emotional response to events related to this element; vice versa if it is an emotional intelligence liability)
